The mass created can become what we call a Higgs boson. The amount of mass created comes from Einstein 's famous equation E=mc 2 , which states that mass is equal to a large amount of energy (for example, 1 kg of mass is equivalent to almost 90 quadrillion joules of energy—the same amount of energy used by the entire world in roughly an hour and a quarter in 2008).

The Higgs boson is the fundamental particle associated with the Higgs field, a field that gives mass to other fundamental particles such as electrons and quarks. A particle’s mass determines how much it resists changing its speed or position when it encounters a force. Not all fundamental particles have mass. A problem for many years has been that no experiment has observed the Higgs boson to confirm the theory. On 4 July 2012, the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider announced they had each observed a new particle in the mass region around 125 GeV. The Higgs boson does indeed play a role in mass, but it's much less significant than you might think.

3. Conclusions Thus we conclude that the numerical formulas for the Higgs boson mass introduced in this paper are in excellent agreement with the experiment. However, this does not mean that any of the above formulas is the exact nature’s description for the Higgs boson mass; they are just a numerical Higgs Boson Gives Next-Generation Particle Its Heft. Experiments at the Large Hadron Collider suggest that muons and other “second-generation particles” obtain their mass from interacting with Figure 1: The signal of the Higgs boson decaying to two photons, measured with the CMS lead tungstate crystal calorimeter. The progressively increasing precision of the Higgs boson mass measurements made by the CMS Collaboration is shown in Figure 2. Using data obtained in 2011 and 2012 the mass was measured as 125.06 ± 0.29 GeV. 20 timmar sedan · To understand the Higgs boson, we really need to talk about the Higgs field first. This field gives certain fundamental particles their mass, while also separating two of the four fundamental forces of nature from each other.
